I think the important distinction is that the resort fee itself isn't money paid to the city. The city collects room/transient lodging tax, and mandatory lodging-related charges are included in the taxable amount. The City of Las Vegas currently lists room-tax rates of 13.38% in the Primary Gaming Corridor and 13% elsewhere, with the revenue supporting various state and local projects. sports games
So I'd be interested in seeing a clearer breakdown of where that tax revenue ultimately goes rather than simply asking where the "resort fees" go. If we're talking about accountability, a public annual report showing collections and expenditures would make this much easier for residents and visitors to understand.
The fees themselves are already frustrating enough—I'd rather see the tax portion tracked transparently so there isn't any confusion between what the hotel keeps and what actually reaches the city.
