    The Smith Center in Las Vegas has been a staple of musical theatre in the city for over 10 years. It hosts a variety of performances, including Broadway shows, concerts, and dance productions. The elegant venue offers state-of-the-art acoustics and a stunning design, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists.

    In this article we’re going to go over everything you need to know before visiting The Smith Center, including the venue’s history, notable past performances, and a comprehensive guide to seeing a show at the venue.

    An Overview of The Smith Center

    After nearly 20 years of effort, The Smith’s Center opened on March 10, 2012, ushering in a new era of performing arts in Las Vegas, Its opening marked the city’s commitment to establishing itself as a leading force in the entertainment industry. 

    Along with hosting some of the best Broadway tours, The Smith Center is dedicated to providing educational programs that support the next generation of performers in Southern Nevada. These programs include workshops, summer camps, and field trips designed to inspire young minds and cultivate their passion for the arts. By offering these opportunities, The Smith Center plays a crucial role in fostering a vibrant cultural community in Las Vegas.

    History of the Building Process

    As we mentioned above, The Smith Center took nearly 20 years to complete, reflecting the city’s dedication to creating a world-class performing arts venue. The initial plans for the center were developed in 1994, with the first donation being received in 2005. 

    Construction officially hit ground in 2009, with David M. Schwarz as the main architect on the project. The construction process was meticulous, ensuring every detail aligned with the vision of a premier arts venue. 

    The Venues

    The Smith Center is home to three different venues for performances. Each space is designed to accommodate a variety of events, from large-scale productions to intimate performances, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience. 

    Reynolds Hall

    The Reynolds Hall is the biggest of the three seated venues in the theatre. It has a staggering 2,050-seats across five levels. This venue is where you will find most touring Broadway productions. 

    Myron’s Cabaret Jazz

    For more intimate performances, the 240 seat jazz theater is perfect. This venue typically hosts both solo and band concerts. Myron’s also offers small plates and drinks to enjoy during the performance. 

    Troesh Studio Theater

    The Troesh Studio Theater is a versatile space that seats up to 250 people. The intimate setting of this venue is perfect for a variety of performances, including plays, dance recitals, and experimental works. 

    Other Areas of The Center

    Elaine Wynn Studio for Arts Education

    The Elaine Wynn Studio for Arts Education Is the hub of the developmental programs for up-and-coming performers to hone their craft. The studio offers a variety of masterclasses and student matinees, providing a supportive environment for artists to develop their skills and network with industry professionals. 

    Dee and Don Snyder Founders Room

    If you’re looking for an intimate and upscale place for a special event, the Dee and Don Snyder Founders Room is the perfect spot. This room hosts up to 60 people and offers a sophisticated setting with elegant decor and state-of-the-art amenities that make it perfect for small gatherings. 

    Discovery Children’s Museum

    What many out-of-town visitors may not realize is that the Discovery Children’s Museum is located directly on The Smith Center Campus. The interactive museum offers three floors of interactive exhibits to foster children’s creativity. (It’s also a great way to beat the heat in summer!)

    What To Know Before You Go

    Before you visit The Smith Center, there are a couple things you can do to make the most of your visit. 

    Buy Tickets Early 

    Some of Broadway’s most popular tours stop at The Smith Center, which is why you should make it a point to purchase your tickets early. Typically, Broadway seasons are released in February, with tickets to individual shows released 60 days prior to their premiere.

     If you want to ensure you can get tickets to your favorite shows, The Smith Center does offer seasonal memberships that will give you early access to tickets. 

    Be Mindful of Bag Requirements 

    The Smith Center has strict bag requirements to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors. Bags must be no larger than 8″x 10″, and all bags are subject to inspection upon entry.

    Arrive Early 

    Since the smith center spans 5 acres, we recommend arriving early so you can explore the grounds before your show. This also allows you to find the best parking and get settled into your seat.  

    Take a Tour

    If you want to learn more about the history of The Smith Center and get a backstage look at the venues, you can join one of their guided tours. During these tours, visitors get a closer look at the architecture, art installations, and behind-the-scenes areas that are not typically accessible to the public as well as learning more about the building process of the center. 

    What Broadway Shows Can You See at The Smith Center?

    The Smith Center’s most prominent staple is their Toyota Broadway Seasons. We’re highlighting what shows have tickets available as of the time of writing, but check back for future releases once they’re released! 

    Aside from the shows we’re highlighting below, there’s also been a number of notable past performances including The Color Purple, which was the first broadway tour at the venue in 2012, Kinky Boots, which launched their U.S. tour from The Smith Center, and Phantom of The Opera, which is one of the fastest selling musicals the venue has ever hosted.

    The Wiz

    Tuesday, April 1 – Sunday, April 6, 2025

    After Wicked: Part I reignited the love of many beloved Wizard of Oz adaptations, it’s no wonder that The Wiz has resurged in popularity. Featuring soul and R&B hits, it’s a take on The Wizard of Oz everyone will love.  Tickets can be bought here.

    Hamilton

    Tuesday, May 20 – Sunday, June 1, 2025

    In 2015, Hamilton took Broadway by storm, and now it’s coming to The Smith Center. With an amazing book and soundtrack by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton blends hip-hop, R&B, pop, and traditional musical theater.     Parade

    Tuesday, June 10 – Sunday, June 15, 2025

    Parade has received enormous critical acclaim since it first was on Broadway in 1998, as well as its revival in 2023. The musical, based on the true story of Leo Frank, offers a powerful and moving exploration of justice, prejudice, and resilience that is certain to stick with audiences.     & Juliet

    Tuesday, June 24 – Sunday, June 29, 2025

    Can you imagine what would have happened if Juliet didn’t die in Romeo & Juliet? ‘& Juliet’ explores just that! This jukebox musical features familiar hits from the 90’s, 2000’s and 2010s and explores themes of love, loss, and self-discovery in a fun and energetic way.
