Las Vegas Show Survival Guide advice and tips for getting the most out of your Las Vegas
show experience.
Getting Tickets: Seeing the shows is a very
important part of the Las Vegas scene. But getting tickets to
see the show you want is not always easy. Shows become sold out,
ticket sellers raise prices and getting a good seat location can
also be a problem. You should realize that all ticket sellers
are not equal and some have much better deals than others. If
location is important to you, such as sitting up close in a
celebrity show, always comparison shop ticket sellers for the
best seating available. Sometimes your hotel concierge or hotel
manager can obtain those hard to get tickets for you.
There are websites that specialize in Las Vegas show tickets.
One such site is the one you are on now (Las Vegas Direct). Las
Vegas Direct specializes in both hard to get tickets and well
located seats. In addition, our ticket prices are discounted.
The discounts can be as much as 50%, more on some shows if
ordered far enough in advance.
Buying Tickets While in Vegas
If you plan to get tickets on your trip instead of in advance,
you will often pay a premium price and seat selection will be
limited. Last minute show tickets can be purchased from the
hotel box office. Another option is to use an outfit called
Tix4Tonight that has various locations around Las Vegas and
opens at 10am, every morning. At that time they offer tickets to
various shows (some at a discount) for that evening. You
actually have to be there to make the purchase. In some cases
the shows may be half-price or less, but this is rarely the case
for popular shows. Again, we highly suggest buying your tickets
in advance.
Vegas Show Dress Codes: Daytime shows are completely
casual. Dress to be comfortable. Although there is no actual
dress code, people tend to dress up for the evening shows,
particularly the upscale celebrity performances. Obviously
strict formal attire is not required here or at most other
places in Las Vegas. A good rule is to dress so you don’t feel
out of place.
Free Show Tickets: Many casinos will give away free show
tickets, or "comps" if you gamble enough. Be sure to use your
players card whenever you gamble so they can track your status,
and let them know you are interested in a free show. If you can
stand it, at many casino hotel lobbies there is often someone
who is willing to offer free tickets to popular shows, but the
catch is that you have to spend about 2 hours listening to a
timeshare presentation. You may not get the best seats or tickets to the top
shows playing, but these offers are legitimate and can get you
and a guest
into a free show.
Picking a Show: With so many choices,
finding that perfect show can be a real challenge. In order to
help you out, we have put together a list of what we feel are
the best shows below (top 10 list) as well as others worth
seeing if you have the time.

Las Vegas Direct Top 10 Best Show Picks
#1 - "O" Cirque du Soleil
In
describing this extravaganza it might be best to call it a live dream
fantasy rather than a show. But by any name, you will be thoroughly
entertained, astonished and even amazed.
Over 70 million dollars has been spent on this production. It
has a cast of 85 performers, 150 stage hands and an on stage pool with one and a
half million gallons of water. And speaking of water, the show gets the name "O"
from the way the French pronounce their word for water as in Eau de Cologne.
Unlike most other Cirque du Soleil shows that concentrate on
performers, "O" presents a series of unique beautiful glimpses of dream
like sequences. At times there is so much going on it is difficult to view
everything. You will see synchronized swimming done with unbelievable precision,
acrobats on a trapeze descending into the on stage pool and a host of assorted
characters hanging around the pool.
Suddenly, three 60 foot ladders appear and death defying divers
launch themselves into the pool in unison. A barge floats in the center of the
stage with acrobats and contortionists. In just a matter of seconds the pool is
covered over by a hard floor and fire dancers are performing. Special effects
including a flying carrousel which will leave you breathless. They go on for
ninety minutes in the magnificent theater at the
Bellagio Hotel.
Phantom's
story takes place at an old opera house in Paris where a mysterious figure
complete with mask and scarred face gives singing lessons to a young beautiful
girl who wishes to become an opera singer. This mysterious phantom soon falls in
love with both her voice and beauty. When she announces her engagement to a
childhood sweetheart, the Phantom is upset and all hell breaks loose.
Andrew Lloyd Weber the composer is not without controversy. Over
the years there has been some discussion as to the originality of the music but
never to its beauty. The music, singing and dancing are magnificent. If this
were not enough to bring you to the show, the auditorium in which you are seated
has been built by the
Venetian Hotel as a
replica of the Garnier Opera House of Paris. The large chandelier with all of
its crystals that leaves the audience breathless is present in all of its glory.
Spectacular pyrotechnics and great sound quality all come together to make an
unforgettable performance.
In a survey of over 500 people who went to the show, 95% enjoyed
it and would recommend it to a friend. There were one or two complaints about
the seats being a little on the small side, but as they say, "The show must go
on."

#3 - Jersey Boys
Somehow,
by a strange quirk of fate, the streets of Newark, New Jersey gave birth to a
musical group called the Four Seasons. This group has sold over 175 million
albums. Their pop songs are possibly the classical music of our time. The show
is a musical docudrama of the lives of the four men in the group, their
successes and failures as human beings and performers.
Each member of the Four Seasons tells the story of the group
from their perspective. This includes excerpts from the life of Frankie Valli,
who was a member of the original group and their lead singer. The stories
are not pretty. They involve gangsters, loan sharks, drugs and alcohol and of
course a stage filled with their musical successes. Twenty of their best selling
songs are presented during the two acts. The show has won four Tony Awards
including best musical.
Here is a partial list of the songs in the show that will put
goose bumps on your sense of musical nostalgia. In fact their rock and roll beat
still lives today giving pleasure to audiences of all ages; Sherry, Big Girls
Don't Cry, Walk Like a Man, My Boy Friend's Back in Town, My Eyes Adored You,
Big Man In Town, Stay/Lets Hang On, C'mon Marianne, Can't Take My Eyes Off Of
You, Working My Way back To You, Rag Doll, Who Loves You, Short Shorts and Don't
You Worry About Me.
Although the show cast is mostly men, there are three very
talented women who dance, and play multiple parts of wives and mothers of the
main characters.
Seeing
this show has been known to create a deep emotional love affair with the music
of the Beatles. Imagine that you are seated in the
Mirage Hotel theater. It has two thousand seats in a circle configuration.
The furthest seat from the stage is only 98 feet away. In the theater are Six
Thousand Three Hundred Speakers. You actually feel physically surrounded by the
sound of Beatles' music.
The show is the brain child of the same artist who created
Cirque du Soleil and has the same elements of beautiful fantasy. Mixed with
these elements are thirty of the most loved Beatles' songs. Often the lyrics
seem to give inspiration to the on-stage activities. As example, while an aerial
ballet is enthralling the audience, the magnificent sound system is playing
"Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds."
The sound, lighting, special effects and sometimes circus-like
atmosphere give the show a mild psychedelic feel. And well it should, because it
traces the history of the Beatles through the Sixties, the era of the
psychedelic inducing magic mushroom (drugs).
Along with the music are some 60 characters who make the stage
come alive. There are aerialists, street dancers and players of extreme sports
such as ramp jumping on skates.
This show will either start or renew your love affair with the
Beatles.
As
you watch their show you cannot help but become deeply engrossed in both the
magic performed in front of your eyes and the comedic commentary of Penn. Unlike
many magicians, they actually explain how some of the tricks work, but then as
they add just a slight twist to it you are still amazed.
They sometimes have audience participation. In one illusion they
blindfold a woman and actually make her believe she is throwing knives at Penn.
Teller, the other half of the act, never speaks on stage. He mimes his way
through the performance and often plays gory tricks on Penn. Off stage they are
good friends.
Aside from being an excellent magician, Penn is an accomplished
juggler who claims to specialize in juggling broken liquor bottles. He and
Teller have been together since 1975. They have been on Broadway and sold out
theaters all over the country. Their act is now featured at the
Rio Suites Hotel,
Las Vegas.
The entire performance is enhanced by an excellent jazz piano
player. Penn and Teller use a heart stopping realistic illusion to end their act
(at least I think it is an illusion). They actually fire guns at each other and
somehow catch the bullets between their teeth. I know it sounds improbable, but
seeing is believing This magic act is by far one of the best of its kind and
will leave you with lasting memories.

Imagine
a show that no matter what country you are from, or what language you speak,
will raise your spirits and put a smile on your face. The Blue Man Group has
been doing this year after year at the
Venetian Hotel.
They are a trio of dark costumed men with blue faces, no ears
and strange looking wide apart eyes. Their appearance is both unsettling and
humorous at the same time. No words are ever spoken by the group, but by gesture
and special effects they are well understood and the simple universal themes of
their act come across to the audience.
Music, especially drumming plays an important role in their
performance. Much of the drum sound is created by their expertise in playing
home made musical instruments made simply of PVC pipe. There is also a great
sounding rock band to which the group really rocks enthusiastically. They have a
hilarious bit where rock star moves are taught.
They love to play off the audience and will invite people on
stage to participate in their theatrical madness. Stuffing their mouths with
marshmallows and splattering paint on a white canvas somehow works and is a part
of the show's charm.
The Blue Man Group had its beginnings in New York during the
late eighties. They opened off Broadway in 1990 and have been an amazingly
successful act ever since. In the year 2000 they came to Las Vegas. From 2005
on, the Venetian
Hotel has been their home.
We
have all heard someone say, "This is a million dollar act." Well, Terry actually
won a million dollars with this act on America's Got Talent. When you see it on
stage at
The Mirage, the
reason he won becomes obvious.
For the most part, the show consists of Terry Fator, a
combination ventriloquist, excellent singer and comedian, having conversations
with his various puppets. Fator's puppets easily give rise to comedic
situations.
There is Vikki the 49 year old cougar who only dates guys 21 to
24. Another puppet is Maynard Thompkins, an Elvis impersonator who doesn't know
any Elvis songs. Winston is a puppet the audience falls in love with, especially
when he sings Roy Orbison's Crying. He is a turtle puppet looking for the Turtle
Ranch as opposed to the Bunny Ranch.
Other members of the show's cast of characters are Johnny Vegas,
a lounge singer who manages to incorporate the worst of Dean Martin and Tony
Bennett. There is Emma Taylor who sings a spectacular version of the Etta James
classic "At Last," Julius the soul singer and Wrex the crash car dummy.
I would be remiss if Walter T. Airdale the country singer with
an eye for the ladies was not mentioned, as well as Hyphen - the Fifth Beatle
who was thrown out of the Beatles group. Also, Duggie Scott Walker the annoying
neighbor who has partied so much at concerts he sees strobes light everywhere.
Finally, we have Berry Fabulous - a recovering lawyer who left that career as he
begins his around the world tour as the world’s most famous male diva.
Many people see the show more than once. Fator proudly says it's
to see the puppets, not him.
#8 Celine Dion
There
are very few female vocalists who can command the stage at
Caesars Palace for an hour and a half and leave the audience begging for
more. But Celine manages to do so every night of her sold out performances.
Some of her music critics are not as kind as they might be. They
criticize Dion's singing as being too sugary, too sentimental. Yet, the love
affair between the Songstress Dion and her audience just gets stronger as the
night's show progresses.
Celine turns out albums both in French and English. Her French
recording, "D'eux" is one the best selling albums of all time. It sold over 173
million copies. So much for the music critics.
She is currently featured at the 4,300 seat theater at
Caesars Palace and will be there for the next few years. There are a few
interesting innovations in her act. One of them is based upon the use of
technology, where she sings a duet with herself as she appears as a hologram.
During the course of her performance she stops from time to time and talks with
the audience helping to create a feeling of intimacy.
Her repertoire includes hit songs by Billy Joel, Michael Jackson
and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as her own hits such as, "My Heart Will Go On,"
"It's All Coming Back to Me" and "Because You Loved Me."
The
sign at
Caesars says, "Elton
John and His Million Dollar Piano," so the first thing everybody wants to know
about is the piano. It was designed and made by Yamaha. What makes it unique is
that there are almost 70 LED displays on the side of the instrument. They
provide a perfect visual accompaniment to what is being played.
Elton John jokes that the piano is so high tech it can microwave
food, but points out it will not barbeque. The real truth is that Elton can
share the stage with almost anything that makes music and still please a crowd.
His show starts off with the song, "The Bitch Is Back," followed
by "Rocket Man." He is backed up by a great sounding five piece band, two part
time cellists and four female singers.
His last play date in Las Vegas ended a five year run in 2009.
Elton is now starting a three year contract at Caesars. Included in the
performance is a tribute to his friend Elizabeth Taylor. He sings the song
written for her - "Blue Eyes," while images of Elizabeth are shown on a stage
bathed in a blue light.
The stage changes color to yellow as he sings, "Goodbye Yellow
Brick Road," a song about his earlier life. Another of his well known songs
"Philadelphia Freedom" is amazingly energized from the red, white and blue
lights of the piano LEDs and stage lighting. Other show stopping numbers include
"Crocodile Rock" and "I'm Still Standing."
This show can only leave you as a fan of Elton John, song writer
and performer.
We
have all seen David Copperfield perform his amazing illusions on television,
such as making the Statue of Liberty disappear and walking right through the
Great Wall of China. But when you see it on television there may be a slight
suspicion that it was done with technical special effects.
Seeing his act in person, at the
MGM Grand Hotel
will convince you of just how wonderful a magician he really is. Many critics
say he is the best in the world.
Since it is impractical (if not impossible) to have the Great
Wall of China on a Las Vegas stage, he does the next best thing. David sets up a
large piece of sheet metal which the audience examines, covers himself and it
with a sheet, and then miraculously appears on the other side of the sheet
metal.
Although many magicians put their assistants in a box and
proceed to saw them in half, David has a different way of doing things. He puts
himself in a box, and with his arms and legs moving, the box begins to grow
shorter shrinking his body into mere inches.
Accompanying David's vast stable of tricks and illusions is an
excellent sense humor and comedy. It should be noted that David Copperfield has
sold more tickets to his performances than any other solo entertainer in the
world.
Las Vegas
Production Shows Major Music, Dance, Entertainment Acts
Absinthe Las Vegas
This
is truly circus in the round. But a circus unlike a traditional one. The acts
are adult, edgy, a little naughty and a lot of fun. As an example, a woman
wearing pasties steps into a large bubble. You don't find that in your everyday
circus. Wild comedy along with acrobats and roller skaters vie for your
attention. All this takes place in a fancy tent called Spiegelworld on the
grounds of
Caesars Palace.
Imagine
a show where one of the worlds best magicians performs his illusions
combined with the musical, acrobatic and dance artistry of Cirque du
Soleil. Criss Angel accomplishes this with a loosely formed fantasy plot
involving the word "Believe."
Luxor Las
Vegas is the location for this amazing show of people levitating,
disappearing, being sawed in half and otherwise doing impossible things
right before your eyes.
The
best of female impersonators make up this fun show at the
Imperial Palace
hotel. There are 16 acts of well known divas such as Cher, Brittany
Spears, Tina Turner, Celine Dion and Diana Ross being imitated.
One of the real show stoppers is an impersonator lip synching and
dancing as Liza Minnelli to New York, New York. Frank Marino is simply
marvelous imitating Joan Rivers. The music is all high energy and the
audience loves the show.
Something new has been to the Las Vegas show scene. It is a hip hop
dance group that had its origins on television, appearing in such shows
as America's Got Talent and America's best Dance Crew. On stage they
wear white masks and gloves to have people focus on them more as a group
than as individuals. Judging from their applause and curtain calls they
are being extremely well received by the audiences at the
Monte
Carlo Hotel. The music makes for good listening and they are fun to
watch.
KA
is a fantasy that comes to life on a specially built stage at the
MGM Grand
Hotel. It is the story of royal twins separated by evil warriors
attacking their palace. The plot is told not by words, but by the
amazing athletic abilities of members of the Cirque du Soleil team
combined with dramatic scene changes in the moving stage. Add to this,
music and sound effects coming from a speaker in the headrest of your
seat, and you have the makings of an exciting theatrical evening.
Le
Reve is French for "The Dream" and what a magnificent dream it is.
Wynn Las Vegas built a small theater in the round where no seat is
more than 12 rows from a pool in the center of the stage. Le Reve
depicts various dreams using synchronized swimmers, acrobats descending
from a domed ceiling, and tango dancers on a raised platform in the
pool. To all of this add dramatic lighting, sound, music and theatrical
magic.
Four
women meet while shopping at Bloomingdales and discuss their menopause
through song, dance and talk. Hot flashes, night sweats, food cravings,
sexual problems, somehow become humorous and keep the audience laughing
until there are tears in their eyes. The songs are parodies of baby
boomer musical hits. Menopause has such wide appeal that there have been
over 11 million performances in various countries.
Luxor is
their current home.
Michael Jackson - The Immortal World Tour
Combining
a legacy of Michael Jackson's powerful music and lyrics with Cirque du
Soleil's artistry,
Mandalay
Bay presents this magnificent show. Through choreography, video
clips, singers and dancers, the audience becomes immersed in a fantasy
that makes the musical legend of Michael Jackson come alive. The King of
Pop lives again.
Mystere - Circus du Soleil
Night
after night for over eighteen years this show has filled
Treasure Islands' theater with enthusiastic audiences. Mystere is
more than just a typical circus. It of course has its share of flying
and swinging acrobats, performers of great athletic skill, mythical
creatures, humorous clowns and a very large Japanese drum that beats to
start the program. Along with all of this there is a man juggling a
metal cube larger than himself, incredible music, singers, and a lot of
popcorn falling from a dome like ceiling.
As
you walk in to the
Tropicana
Showroom theater you are given a set of drumsticks and a recycled pie
tin or bucket painted with a colored dot. The show begins with a cast of
four high energy drummers playing on recycled junk rather than drums.
Their beat and their sound is electrifying. From time to time the
audience joins in by hitting their recycled pieces with drumsticks when
the video that's playing shows their color dot. Two of the drummers show
a remarkable talent for climbing up and down a ladder while rocking out
with drumsticks on the rungs. If you like rock music you will love this.
Going
to this show is almost like going to a real wedding, except it is more
fun. As a member in the nuptials of Anthony Angelo Nunzio Jr and
Valentina Lynne Vitale, each coming from a slightly nutty family, you
can enjoy a buffet wedding dinner, have some wedding cake, talk to the
participants who always stay in character, meet an annoying wedding
photographer, a tipsy priest, tacky bridesmaids and a DJ who wants you
to dance to YMCA. All of this takes place at
Bally's. I forgot to mention, it is also a whole evening of laughs
whether you join in or not.
Knights
galloping in to the arena with colorful plumage, their banners waving.
Court maidens in medieval costumes singing and dancing. Enjoy
Excalibur's dinner show as sword fighting, jousting and gladiator
battles take place before your very eyes. Eat as the Lords and Ladies
did with no utensils. Cheer as Merlin and his good knights dispatch the
evil wizard. Good food, good entertainment and a good time for all.
This
show is based on the idea that sometimes smaller opening and closings
acts of celebrity shows are better than the main performance. As a
result,
Planet
Hollywood where V is playing offers audiences a fast paced menu of
comedy, acrobats, juggling, magic, impersonators, crazy drum beating
Gauchos, gymnasts, aerialists and some acts that defy description. It is
a world class variety show that only Las Vegas could create.
Vegas
The Show takes advantage of a long history of entertainment that has
played Las Vegas. It begins in a graveyard for neon signs of old hotels
and nightclubs. Ernie the caretaker tells a story of a Las Vegas that
once was. His words come to life on a stage with dance numbers by men in
tuxedos and women in white gowns. Vegas The Show features celebrity
impersonations of Louis Prima and Keely Smith, Sammy Davis Jr., Tom
Jones, Elton John, Elvis, Sonny and Cher along with numerous others
including a magician that you will not soon forget.
Planet
Hollywood is home to this production.
For
seven years and hundreds of performances Elvis Presley was the uncrowned
king of Las Vegas. Even with his passing, Elvis's awesome talent can
still be found on stage at
Aria's Viva
Elvis Theater. A cast of 77 musicians, singers, dancing costumed
showgirls and Cirque du Soleil performers all manage to combine with
images of Elvis. Together all of these elements create a wonderful
evening of on stage excitement.
This
is a show for adults. It is an exotic, artistic, humorous yet slightly
quirky view of human sexuality. Before the show begins a likeable
gentleman in a shiny gold suit jokes with the audience as two voluptuous
twin sisters appear in French Maid costumes. Although Zumanity has
aerialists and talented gymnastic performers, this is not the usual
Cirque du Soleil production. Along with erotic dancers, there are
vignettes and other scenes showing various aspects of sexuality.
Zumanity's message is smile and enjoy. It can be seen at
New York, New
York.
This
magic show features world class magician Criss Angel and combines his
talents with the artistry of Circus du Soleil. His illusions combined
with the musical, acrobatic and dance artistry of Cirque du Soleil.
Criss Angel accomplishes this with a loosely formed fantasy plot
involving the word "Believe."
Luxor Las
Vegas is the location for this amazing show of people levitating,
disappearing, being sawed in half and otherwise doing impossible things
right before your eyes.
You
have probably seen the illusions created by Mr. Copperfield on TV. They
are vastly more amazing when viewed on stage at the
MGM Grand Hotel. Accompanying David's vast stable of tricks and
illusions is an excellent sense humor and comedy as he interacts with
the audience. It should be noted that David Copperfield has sold more
tickets to his performances than any other solo entertainer in the
world.
Jan
Rouven is an award winning magician from Europe. He is fairly new to the
Las Vegas scene. His specialty is death defying illusions that keep the
audience on the edge of their seats. The stage at the
Riviera Hotel is where he can be seen escaping while handcuffed and
chained submerged in a tank of water. He manages to escape death from
spinning saw blades and fire just in the nick of time. After having
watched 3 or 4 close calls with death in a performance, you will have to
walk away from the theater shaking your head and wondering why and how
he does it.
Mac
King has an afternoon show at
Harrah's in
which he manages to walk the line between comedy and magic. Audiences
will tell you that he does both very well. His magic does not seem to
depend so much on high technology, but on his slight of hand with common
objects. His humor, which comes out best when he interacts with the
audience, is a little country, a little quirky and a lot laugh inducing.
It is a nice way to spend an afternoon.
Stephane
Vanel is a slight-of-hand magician. Instead of depending on gimmicks and
high tech devices, he performs tricks by manipulating objects with his
hands. As an example, he seems to have the amazing ability to have a
deck of cards appears in his hands out of thin air and then vanish at
will. Along with Stephane's slight-of-hand, the show also features other
multitalented performers including a marionette master and a bevy of
attractive dancers. He is currently performing at
Paris Las
Vegas.
Comedy
Magic playing at the
Four
Queens is a family show that both kids and adults love. No two shows
are ever alike. Mike juggles, tells jokes, performs magic, does pranks
on stage with the audience and generally seems to amuse everybody. He
has an unbelievably high audience review rating. Since the theater at
the Four
Queens is small, Mike interacts with audience members and makes them
feel that they're part of the show.
Finding
good family entertainment in Las Vegas can be a challenge. However,
Nathan Burton's magic show at the
Flamingo
Hotel is an an excellent choice. Since 2001 he has been a Las Vegas
headliner. His show uses both comedy and some very spectacular
illusions, such as making a life size Barbie doll appear and levitate
when her life size hair dryer is turned on. Another of the illusions is
a sketchpad drawing coming to life. Throughout the performance Nathan is
quick-witted and funny. Adding to the humor is when his assistant places
comedy masks on audience members who volunteer to come on stage and
participate in an extremely hilarious scenario.
As
you watch these two master magicians perform on stage at the
Rio Hotel, the comedic commentary of Penn enhances their illusions.
They even tell you how to do the trick and you are still fooled. Unlike
many magicians, they actually explain how some of the tricks work, but
then as they add just a slight twist to it you are still amazed. The
entire performance is enhanced by an excellent jazz piano player. Penn
and Teller use a heart stopping realistic illusion to end their act
catching bullets between their teeth. I know it sounds improbable, but
seeing is believing This magic act is by far one of the best of its kind
and will leave you with lasting memories.

Las Vegas Celebrity Shows
Barry Manilow
Barry
Manilow is playing a limited engagement at the 1500 seat theater at the
Paris Las Vegas Hotel. His performances are always sellouts. Barry's
career spans over 35 years in show business and accounts for the sale of
80 million records. Here are some of the songs the audience is treated
to - "Mandy," "I write the songs," "It's a Miracle," "Looks like We Made
it," "Love is here to Stay," "Where do I Begin" and "Copacabana." While
on stage Barry talks about his early life and how his show-business life
began.
Singing
both in French and English Celine Dion wows the
Caesars
Palace audience every time she takes the stage. She has done this
for years and is destined to keep on doing it. One of the great moments
of her performance is when she sings a duet with a hologram of herself.
The theater goers love her and you can feel that the love is returned.
Her repertoire includes hit songs by Billy Joel, Michael Jackson and
Ella Fitzgerald, as well as her own hits such as, "My Heart Will Go On,"
"It's All Coming Back to Me" and "Because You Loved Me."
It
is as if their television comes to life right before your eyes when
Donny and Marie take the stage at the
Flamingo Hotel
theater. Just like the TV show it is a fun packed family friendly
performance. They sing, dance and poke fun at each other. Marie who has
a great voice belts out some Broadway show tunes and then magnificently
sings an operatic piece. During the show Donny takes solo stage and
drives the audience to standing cheers with such songs as Ma cherie
amour, Go away little girl and Puppy love. Donny and Marie also perform,
along with their cast members, well choreographed dance numbers.
If
the truth be told, Elton John does not need a million dollar piano to be
one of the supreme celebrity entertainers ever to grace a Las Vegas
theater. On the other hand it adds a visual technology to his act that
he never had before. When he first walks out on stage and sings "The
Bitch Is Back," you know you're in for a solid evening of entertainment.
This song is then followed by Elton's hit "Rocket Man." The rest of the
evening at
Caesars Palace
just gets better.
Originally
a political cartoonist from Canada, Gordie Brown is now a very funny and
talented stage performer at the
Golden
Nugget Hotel. His humor is based on a unique ability to do precise,
dead on impressions of various entertainers such as Willie Nelson,
Michael Jackson and Tina Turner just to name a few. Gordie places the
celebrities he does impressions of into very humorous situations. His
show uses parodies, music, and good old fashioned comedy to entertain
and his audiences enjoy the performance.
Take
an award winning singing recording artist who can do fantastic
impressions, add to this some serious joke telling, put him on stage at
the LVH Hotel
(Las Vegas Hilton) and you have the makings of a great evening of
entertainment. A partial list of Greg's impressions consists of Barry
Manilow, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Sammy Davis Jr., Ozzy Osbourne,
Billy Gray, Ray Charles, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and even Kermit the Frog
is not safe from his devastating humor. Throughout all of this Greg
manages to joke with the band, the audience and himself.
Human Nature - The Ultimate Celebration of the Motown Sound
On
stage at the
Imperial Palace
Hotel is Australia's answer to the Motown sound. The act consists of
four guys who are excellent singers putting their voices together in a
most entertaining manner. Each sings well enough to be a soloist and
together they create amazing harmonies. It is no wonder they are
Australia's most popular Doo-Wop group. You will hear such hits as "Stop
In the Name of Love," "Wait a Minute Mr. Postman" and "My Girl." During
the show the audience is actually dancing in the aisles as they give
instruction for simple dance steps. Legend Smokey Robinson has been
known to give an introduction for the group and is a big fan.
This
show is a throw-back to the good old days of Las Vegas. Goss a good
looking guy with a resemblance to Frank Sinatra gets up on stage in a
lounge at
Caesars Palace
Hotel and begins belting out songs. In a tribute to Sinatra he sings
"Luck be a Lady" and "I've Got the World on a String." He is backed up
by a live nine piece band and a group of scantily clad beautiful dancers
known as the Dirty Virgins. Since the show is held in a lounge, there is
drinking and smoking. There are only 175 seats, so the performance seems
more like a private party that you have been invited to attend. Goss
usually stays after the show and mingles with the audience. The show
with the help of a DJ often goes on into the wee small hours of the
morning.
For
a night of classic Doo-Wop and Rock & Roll, the theater at the
Rio Hotel is the place to be. Taking the stage is a trio of talented
groups whose careers span from the late sixties to today. Those of us
old enough to remember them from our teenage years will have the thrill
of reliving their music. Newer generations will appreciate the driving
sound and heart-felt lyrics to such songs as "Love Potion #9," "Please
Mr. Postman," "Charlie Brown," "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes," "Yakety Yak,"
plus 29 more best sellers. It ain't opera, but it sure is fun...
100
million records sold, over 50 years of performing, and audiences all
loves him. Rod Stewart the raspy voiced English Rocker with the unruly
hair is featured at
Caesars
Palace, Coliseum. When he sings "Tonight's the Night" (everything's
gonna be alright) an emotionally charged feeling seemed to run through
the minds and hearts of the audience. Add to this such well known hits
as "I Don't Want to Talk About It" and "Maggie May," and you have a
great evenings entertainment. When he sings "Do You Think I'm Sexy," the
women in the audience all answer a resounding, "Yes!"
Find
a performer who is a comedian, a singer and an excellent ventriloquist.
His name would be Terry Fator and he is performing on stage at the
Mirage Hotel.
Actually, Terry does not perform by himself but has a cast of puppet
characters that the audience falls in love with. By way of introduction
to just a few of his characters; there is Winston the Turtle who is
searching for the Turtle Ranch as opposed to the Bunny Ranch. You will
also meet Maynard the Elvis impersonator who does not know any Elvis
songs, and Vikki the 49 year old cougar who only dates 20 year old guys.
Terry adds a Christmas feeling to the show around November-December.
Brad
Garrette one of the comedy leads in the I Love Raymond TV show (he is
the taller older brother) opened a comedy club at the Flamingo Hotel. He
sometimes appears there as a comedian but most times the stage is taken
by some very funny stand-up comics. They make fun of everything and
everybody. If you're a sensitive type this is not the place for you.
Here is a partial list of some of the comedians schedule to perform;
Monique Marvez, Nicholas Anthony, Cowboy Bill Martin and Paul Ortega.
The place is great fun but the drinks are overpriced.
Carrot Top
Imagine
a comedian who literally pulls his jokes out of a large steamer trunk
standing next to him on stage. Carrot Top is known as a prop comedian.
He pulls unique, strange looking objects or sometimes everyday items out
of his trunk, comments about them and before you know it the audience is
screaming with laughter. When he is not holding up his stage props his
talent as a standup comedian takes over and you are still laughing. This
is a fast paced feel good show at the Luxor Hotel..
Defending the Caveman
Defending
the Caveman has been the longest running one man play in the history of
Broadway. The reasons for this are that the show is timely, funny and
the audience loves the performance. Kevin Burke is now acting in it at
Harrah's Improv. The show explores the differences between men and women
looking back to caveman days to fully understand the cultural
differences between the two sexes. Cavewomen were gathers of food which
included fruits of a proper color to show ripeness. Today this
genetically extends to women shopping for clothes of a proper color for
the season. Throughout the show the audience seem to be nudging each
other acknowledgement of the conflicts between bursts of laughter.
.
Fitz of Laughter
Kevin
Burke when he finishes his performance in Defending the Caveman at
Harrah's hurries to the Fitzgerald Hotel downtown to do a comedy
performance. Burke who is an accomplished performer puts on a pretty
decent show. A little magic, some mind reading, joke telling and a lot
of personality all come together to make up the act. The show itself is
in a small room at the hotel so the feeling of closeness adds to it. It
may not be the biggest show in Las Vegas but it is entertaining..
George Wallace
When
a comedian is able to star for over 5 years at the same club he must be
doing something right. George Wallace in his act manages to comment
about current events, family life and members of the audience in such a
way that he provokes laughter instead of irritation or embarrassment.
Taking the stage at the Flamingo Hotel showroom he tells a few very
funny jokes and before you know it he's going from table to table
schmoozing and joking with the audience. No two shows are ever alike. He
is one of the few comedians who manage to keep their act pretty clean.
Improv at Harrah's
The Improv is a night club located at Harrah's Hotel that has a very
talented group of stand-up comedians perform on stage. The name Improv
is short for improvisation. Some of the comedians take the stage and
improvise their entire act. Others have a notion of the material they
will use. In any case the management of the club seem to select some
very funny talent tp perform. Here are some of the headliners scheduled:
Lachan Patterson, Steve Mittleman, Deva Krause, John Joseph,Johny B, Don
McMillan, John DiResta, Kenny Kane, Scott Record, Jeff Capri, Sammy
Obeid, Harry Basil, Saleen, CHris Mancini, Brian Dunkleman, Amir K,
Brett Walkow, Anthony Griffith, Carrie Snow, David Gee, Bob Zany, Alen
Bursky, Steve Whte, Don McEnery, Debbie Praver, Joe Starr, Tony Camin,
Ahmed Baroocha, Ronchel Sheridan, Brian McKim and Traci skene.
Kings Comedy Club
On
Sunday through Thursday nights Kings Comedy Club located in the Rio
Hotel features the extreme comedy of Michael "Wheels" Pharese and Geechy
Guy. The Guinness Book of World Records has listed Geechy as the world's
fastest joke teller. He has appeared on the Jay Leno show. On Friday and
Saturday nights the club features three of the top up and coming comedy
entertainers in the country. They almost always put on a good show. It's
worth seeing.
Louie Anderson
When
Louie Anderson takes the stage at the Palace Station hotel his face is
so well known that almost everyone in the audience feels they know him.
He was often seen on the tonight show with Johnny Carson and has M.C.'d
numerous television shows including Family Feud. Louie has managed to
win a couple of emmy-awards. His show is family-friendly. He manages to
put a very humorous slant on our everyday problems in such away the
audience easily relates and thoroughly enjoys his comedy.
Marriage Can Be Murder
This
is a comedy dinner show where you the audience help solve a murder
mystery while sitting and enjoying a meal. It is the longest running
dinner show in Las Vegas. Fitzgerald's hotel is the scene of the crime.
Sitting at the hotel's banquet table you are first served salad and warm
rolls. Seated next to you may be another guest or an actor playing a
part in the comedy drama. As the show which is humorously hosted by DD a
friendly but ditzy blond goes on, you make an entree selection of beef,
chicken or fish. During the course of your dinner a murder takes place
and a police inspector starts asking questions of the guests and actors.
The questions are funny, the answers are funny and a good time is had by
all. Best of all, for dessert you get cheesecake.
Nunsense
The
Las Vegas Hilton hotel has a real winner with this musical comedy. It
ran for 10 years in New York and garnered 4 Outer Circle Critics Awards.
The plot of the show is that a small group of nuns are trying to raise
money to bury some dead sisters by putting on a musical. It seems the
Order, known as the Sisters of Hoboken had a kitchen mishap and 52
sisters were accidentally poisoned by the cook. They had enough money to
bury all but four, who are now languishing in the convent's freezer. The
show is funny from beginning to end. If you enjoy laughing (and who
doesn't) it makes for a great evenings entertainment.
Playboy Comedy Club
The
Palms hotel offers a unique situation when it comes to the Playboy
Comedy Club. By buying a combination ticket you can see a really funny,
adult oriented comedy show and after the performance you can party the
night away on the 52 floor at the Playboy Night Club. The Comedy Club
features two extraordinary comedians, Paul Hughes and Cort McCown along
with a rotating cast of excellent comedy artists such as Dov Davidoff
and Chelsea. Upstairs at the Playboy Club you can often find the
Playmate of the Month signing autographs and posing for pictures.
Riveria Comedy Club
Las Vegas has its share of comedy clubs and this club is one of the
major contributors. Located in the Riveria hotel it has been going
strong since 1987. The room has been modeled after a basement New York
City night club. There is a large semicircular stage with a single
microphone and a spot-light. The club only holds an audience of 350.
Seats are arranged at small and large tables. Almost all the comedians
who appear are either headliners or top notch. Here is a partial list of
comics; Tom Simmoms, Danie Dugar, Larry Reeb, Mike Reynolds, Carla Ria,
John Bizarre, Kathleen Dunbar, Shayima Tash, Greg Vacariello, Paul Bond
and Willie Farrell.
Sin City Comedy Club
The
Planet Hollywood Hotel is the home of this Comedy Club which features an
ever changing cast of headlining comedians. Every night, promptly at 9
pm the show begins. It is a sexy, fun, adult, raunchy affair mixed with
attractive barely dressed dancers. Along with some very funny comics
there is a definite touch of burlesque. Although, it isn't what you call
a big production show it is certainly worth the price of a ticket.
Vinne Favorito
Vinne
is a standup commdian who manages to insult everybody in the audience
with his sharp witted humor. He is one of the most sought after
celebrity roast masters around. Vinnie makes Don Rickles seem like a
choir boy. But, the audience loves him and keeps coming back for more.
He does his schtick at the Bugsy Cabaret located at the Flamingo Hotel.
Las Vegas Celebrity Tribute Shows
Barbra and Frank, The Concert That Never Was.
This
is a wonderful show at the Westin Hotel where two talented performers
take the stage and look, act and sing like Barbra Streisand and Frank
Sinatra.
The Beatles Show
This
show is staged at the Planet Hollywood Hotel. It combines video footage
of the Beatles with live on stage performances of some very talent
musicians. The costuming and make-up combined with their great job of
performing make for a wonderful evening of Beatles' music.
Bee Gees (Australian) Show
Featured
at the Excalibur Hotel the cast of this show does an excellent job of
imitating the songs, music and spirit of the Bee Gees. They have played
to over 1 million sold out audiences in forty countries.
Hitzville The Show
The
stars and music of Motown are featured here. You will hear hits like My
Guy, What's love got to do with it and Natural Woman. Singing the Motown
hits are talented singers who manage to sound like Diana Ross, Tina
Turner and The Temptations. All of this can be enjoyed at the Planet
Hollywood Hotel.
The King
When
Trent Carlini steps on stag at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel in his Elvis
costume the primarily female audience starts to go crazy. By the end of
the show some would say they are completely nuts. Without any doubt
Carlini is the best Elvis impersonator around.
Legends in Concert
This
show takes place in the theater at Harrahs Hotel. You never know just
which legends you are going to see being imitated. Typically you will
find Elvis, Jay Leno, Madonna, or Dolly Parton gracing the stage. It
usually turns out to be a very fun filled evening.
The Rat Pack Is Back
In
the 1960's Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Joe Bishop
became known as the Rat Pack. They sang, joked and otherwise had a
goodtime on stage. At the Rio Hotel four great impersonators are
bringing their act back for audiences to enjoy.
Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Show
The
late Buddy Hackett was a good friend to the group known as the Rat Pack
(Sinatra, Martin, Davis jr. and Bishop) At the begining of the show
Buddy's voice can be heard playing God, saying "I'm bringing you guys
back because Vegas isn't the same without you." All of this takes place
at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.
Las Vegas Hypnosis and Mentalist Acts
Anthony Cools The Uncensored Hypnotist
You
will find Anthony Cools an amazing hypnotist on stage at the Paris Las
Vegas Hotel. His act encompass both comedy and adult behavior. In fact
the audience is warned of such before they volunteer. But like Cools
say's, "It is good clean dirty fun."
Marc Savard Comedy Hypnosis
If
you enjoy laughing out just how silly humans can get, this show at the
Planet Hollywood Hotel is place to be. Marc who is a great hypnotist
seems to know how to bring out the silliest in people. It is a funny
laugh filled evening.
The Mentalist - Gerry Cambridge
Mr.
Cambridge seems to have the unique ability to predict in advance what
members of the audience will say and do. He mixes comedy into his mind
reading capabilities for a most enjoyable evening. Celebrities such as
Donald Trump, Howard Stern and Carrie Fisher have hired him to entertain
at their parties.
Las Vegas Wild and Crazy Shows
American Storm
Here
is a show for the ladies. A talented group of male dancers are giving
the female audiences at the Planet Hollywood something to cheer about
and really let their hair down. The dance group has fantasy vignettes of
cowboys, gangsters of the roaring 20's and the psychedelic 60's. There
is lots of audience interaction. A good time seems to be had by all.
Bite
Well,
the vampires are at it again. This time on the stage at the Stratosphere
Hotel. In a beautiful to watch love story, semi-dressed women vampires
sing and dance to classic rock. Music from such groups as AC/DC, Gun's
and Roses and Twisted Sister create the background for this exotic,
erotic love tale.
Chippendales the Show
10
male hunks make up the cast of this fantasy show for the ladies. The
female audience scream, holler and cheer for these guys as they do their
dancing, singing and stripping. Taking the stage at the Rio Hotel these
performers seem to work their willing audience into a rowdy, jumping and
grabbing group. After the show they are invited to the Flirt Lounge next
door to continue the fun.
Crazy Girls
Crazy
Girls, playing at the Riviera Hotel is the longest running burlesque
review on the Las Vegas Strip. Eight beautiful women in naughty costumes
and a lot of talent make up this extravaganza of exotic dancers.
Staging, lighting and choreography all come together to please
audiences. A artistically performed girl on girl number at the end of
the show is most memorable.
Crazy Horse Paris at MGM Grand
This
production atMGM Grand is not your everyday burlesque review. It is
truly a work of art. Seen originally in Paris the show was brought to
Las Vegas and an exact replica of the Parisian theater was built to
house the performance. Twelve beautiful girls, many of them trained in
ballet make up the cast members. Upon their bodies, lights, color and
images are projected as they dance. Art, beauty and erotic scenes
combine to take your breath away. Both men and women will enjoy this
show.
Fantasy
Luxor
Hotel is the home of this show which is a wonderful mixture of
semi-dressed women, comedy, and a beautifully voiced songstress. Any
show that begins with a scene involving a bed, a mirror, and a chair
along with three gorgeous creatures wearing lingerie cannot be bad. Add
to this a comedic impressionist, naughty costumes, some wonderfully
conceived hypnotic dance numbers and you have a great evenings
entertainment.
Jubilee!
The
stage at Bally's sizzles with statuesque chorus girls dancing production
numbers equal to the finest shows the Lido de Paris can present.
Eighty-five cast members contribute to the elaborate sets and beautiful
costumes. There is even a white coat and tails dance number on a large
flight of stairs similar to old Hollywood movies. In between these
magnificent production numbers the audience is treated to aerialists,
acrobats, gauchos drumming and a variety of amusing acts. For the family
oriented, every Saturday night at 7:30 pm the dancers are fully dressed.
Men of X
Put
an attractive group of male dancers into a small showroom venue such as
at Hooters and you have the makings of a great party atmosphere for all
the female guests. The Men of X create various fantasies that drive
their audience wild. They go from cowboys, to motorcycle riders, to
firemen, to even taking a shower on stage. All of this in almost good
taste. The men dance as a group and also perform solo. Their music
ranges from rock, hip hop and country. Dancers interacting with the
audience is a fun part of the show.
Night School 4 Girls
Ladies,
here is a class on how to be sexy. It is a fun but instructive class
given at the Excalibur Hotel. You learn everything from pole dancing
techniques to burlesque dance moves and how to enhance their sexiness
using props such as feathers or even a chair. Included is special
instruction on using eye contact to attract men. Make-up suggestions are
offered. Parts of the class are taught by working Las Vegas show girls.
Laura Croft of E's Holly World presents the class. You even get a
diploma at the end of the evening.
Peep Show starring Holly Madison
If
you thought nursery rhymes were just for kids, think again. Peep Show
playing at Planet Hollywood manages to put a whole new twist on them. To
be more exact, a very naughty but fun twist. Beautiful Holly Madison
along with a cast of equally gorgeous dancers perform humorous but eye
engaging skits to various nursery rhymes. High energy music, large
onstage video screens, together with the sometimes covered and sometimes
uncovered dancing of the women make for an exciting evening. It's
burlesque, but it's good burlesque.
Raack N Roll
Here
is a recipe for a great evening's entertainment. Take an empty stage at
Hooters and fill it with beautiful women dressed in very wicked
costumes. Then have these women create fantasies of naughty nurses and
school teachers gone wrong. To this have them dancing to classic rock
such as Metalica, Ac/Dc, Led Zeppelin and Alice Cooper. On top of all
this, add the comedy performance of Robert Nash. His impressions of
Clint Eastwood, Robert deNiro, Jack Nicholson, Dean Martin and Rodney
Dangerfield along with many others will keep you laughing after the
curtain comes down.
Stripper 101
"Attention
ladies, your class in pole dancing and other sexy moves is about to
begin." This instruction takes place in the V Theater at the Planet
Hollywood. In this friendly, no men allowed atmosphere, you will learn
some easy to do pole dancing moves taught by a professional stripper. At
the same tine you will be doing a 300-400 calorie work-out getting
yourself in shape. After finishing the class you will receive a
certificate making you a genuine Las Vegas Stripper. You may also
purchase photos of yourself. The class is great for parties or just a
girls' night out.
Thunder From Down Under
What
do you get when a bunch of good looking guys from Australia take the
stage at the Excalibur Hotel, dance and slowly remove most of their
clothes? Answer: An audience of rowdy, screaming, happy women. And when
a few members of the audience are selected to receive the affections of
the dancers it becomes absolute bedlam. The dancers are talented and do
an great job of creating fantasies that energize the audience. If you're
a women looking for a great night out, this is the place.
X Burlesque
A
cast of beautiful, sexy women make up this edgy, quirky fun to watch
review. Both dressed and undressed, the women put on an awesome show. It
can be seen in a small 180 seat theater at the Flamingo Hotel. Because
the venue is so small the girls often interact with audience members. In
fact, pole dancing takes place in the center of the room. On each side
of the stage, video screens show seductive scenes and introduce the
acts. The acts themselves are based on erotic male fantasies. In between
the performances and to help round out the show comics take the stage
and are actually quite entertaining.
XBU - X Burlesque University
Tuition
to the Burlesque University is an afternoon theater ticket to Bugsys'
Cabaret on Friday or Saturday afternoon. At this university you will
learn how to be a showgirl in Las Vegas. This includes how to apply
make-up and learning to move in a very sexy manner. The women who do the
teaching are the same ones who appear on stage in the very popular X
Burlesque. At the end of class you will receive a complimentary make-up
kit, a professionally made souvenir photo, and a diploma. Enjoy.

Nunsense
This is a musical about a group of Nuns trying to raise money to bury
their dead sisters. 48 of them died when the were accidentally poisoned by the
cook. Trying to bury the last few seems to offer some money challenges. Trust
me, when I tell you it's a comedy. You can see it at the LVH Hotel in the
afternoon or evening.
